To share the rich history of African Americans across the country through art, jazz, wine, and food in a uniquely diverse hospitality setting.

To foster a strong sense of community by partnering with or creating new businesses from within the communities and showcasing those businesses to the world to help stimulate their growth.

Sojourn commits to creating or empowering at least 10 businesses within the community to serve as our partners and vendors.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a unique brand of Boutique Hotels that will capture and keep pace with the world’s fastest-growing segment of the tourism market, “Heritage Tourism.” By bringing African American history and culture alive in cities all across the United States and abroad, we will create a brand that combines the amenities of a first- class hotel and the intimacies of a bed and breakfast. This “Breakfast Table” experience model encourages people from various races, genders, and cultures to come together and share their lives with one another.

Why Urban Communities

The Sojourn Heritage business model is designed to increase economic opportunities for local residents. We purpose to participate in the transformation of urban communities and tell the African American history.

Gentrification of the inner cities across the country must include the black community in its redevelopment plan. Our goal is to work with developers to be a forerunner in community tourism to ensure that this happens.

We will work with city leaders and developers to create viable ways to shape the transformation of our communities through inclusion and economic opportunity.

Why Heritage Tourism

The National Trust defines heritage tourism as “traveling to experience the places, artifacts, and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past,” and heritage tourism can include cultural, historic and natural resources.

Currently, Heritage Tourism is the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry. In 2015, Heritage tourism travelers spent over 200 billion dollars in the United States and that trend is expected to continue to grow.

The Boutique hotel industry has outperformed the broader hotel industry at an annual rate of 5.6 % over the last 5 years to 2015 thanks to consumers demand for unique offerings.

Over the past decade, customers have moved away from the cookie-cutter hotels created for the masses especially in urban locations.

As of 2016, the boutique hotel industry has grown to a 13.7 billion dollar industry.

Independent brands are currently growing at a rate of 7% per year.

Our Team

Kristin Kitchen- Founder and CEO of  Sojourn Heritage Accommodations with 15 years in hospitality ownership and management.

Barron Channer- Development consultant-As CEO of Bach Real Estate, Barron has a 10 years experience with complex real estate transactions including acquisitions, restructuring and development.

Mona Stephen- Interior designer-  Owner of M1One Design group based out of Atlanta, Mona has over 15 years experience in both residential and commercial properties.

Marcie Jones- Owner of Urban Connoisseurs- Marcie has over 10 years experience as a consultant in the wine industry and is partnering with us develop our hotel’s wine retail space.

Julius Jackson- President of Social Investment Holdings – An investment group focused on investing in small and midsized minority companies, particularly in Urban Communities.
